Story: The project is located on a brown site just outside the downtown center of Spartanburg, SC and fronting the Dan Trail, one of Spartanburg’s many initiatives to enhance the Union St. corridor.

The goal with this project was to find a solution that would provide a fresh take on the high-density apartment buildings and serve as a catalyst to other developments throughout the city. The design of the building focuses on creating a strong connection to the pedestrian scale with apartment units fronting the main streets having direct access sidewalks, while also establishing a strong structural presence with its large butterfly roof element, accentuated entrance, and bold color scheme. The design of the building was developed through various Design Review Board meetings and aligning the City’s design goals with the client’s development goals. In its completion the building serves as a beacon for new development that blends into architectural fabric of the city and creates a template for ways future development can be approached.
